Bikers
Whether you ride or not, you share the road with bikers every day. A motorbike is easy to miss in a mirror and can appear in your blind spot in a second. Very often, after a crash with a biker, the driver says the same thing: "I didn't see him."
So, drivers: check twice before you change lanes, turn across traffic or pull out of a side road. Give bikers a full lane, keep a proper gap behind them and never try to block one out of frustration. That biker is someone's parent or child on their way home.
For riders, the law covers the basics. Regulation 207 says the rider and any passenger must wear a properly fitting helmet with the chin strap fastened, and the rider is responsible for a passenger under 14 doing the same. Regulation 157 requires a motorbike's headlamp to be on at all times on a public road. Beyond the law, wear proper protective gear on every ride, even a short one, ride as if nobody can see you, and stop for a break before tiredness sets in.
Arrive Alive has a large collection of biker guides. These are the ones I found most useful for riders, and for drivers who want to understand bikers better.
