What happened
The driver of a white Hyundai Grand i10, registration LL 03 BJ GP, failed to stop at the out of order traffic light on Marlboro Drive in Linbro Park. The vehicle was travelling along Marlboro Drive towards the bridge, through the intersection where traffic comes off the highway to join Marlboro Drive. Under South African road rules, an intersection with a non functioning traffic light must be treated as a four way stop, where every vehicle comes to a complete stop and proceeds in order of arrival. With traffic entering from a highway off ramp at speed, stopping and taking turns at this intersection matters even more than usual.
