What happened
The driver of a white Hyundai Grand i10, registration LK28XDGP, failed to stop at the traffic light on Marlboro Drive where the freeway off ramp joins. The traffic light was out of order at the time. Under South African road rules, an intersection with a non functioning traffic light must be treated as a four way stop, where every vehicle comes to a complete stop and proceeds in order of arrival. With traffic coming off the freeway at speed, stopping and taking turns at this intersection matters even more than usual.
