What happened
The driver of a VW Polo overtook queuing traffic by driving over the yellow painted island on Longlake Boulevard in Modderfontein, just before the Gautrain bridge, travelling in the direction of Centenary Street. After passing the queue, the driver cut back in ahead of the vehicles that had been waiting their turn. No hazard lights were displayed and there was nothing to suggest an emergency. A yellow painted island is a prohibited area under South African road rules and may not be driven on or used to overtake.
